Portraits are tough! The unique appearance of each of 7.4 billion people, when each face comprises the same elements of eyes, nose, mouth etc, makes it hardly surprising that very minor discrepancies in form can lose that unique identity. I treat them as a challenge….
Nevertheless, there is something fascinating about heads, and faces in particular. Giacometti believed that everything about a person’s character could be found in their gaze and certainly a person’s eyes are one of the first and most important points of connection. Faces make a great playground for exploring character and emotion.
